Tour To Wenchi Crater Lake

A quick taste of Ethiopia

This one or two day trip would be ideal for conference delegates or for those in Addis just for a few days to get a taste of Ethiopia. This trip includes either walking or horse riding.

Day 1

Tour to Wenchi Crater Lake (300 km journey)

Starting at around 7.00am, we drive 150 kms west from Addis Ababa to the Wenchi Crater lake, which lies at a height of 3000 m (10,000’) above sea level in the crater of an extinct volcano in the Oromo Region.

After completing entrance formalities and picking up an obligatory guide at the Wenchi Eco-Tourism Office, we drive uphill for a short distance to reach our start point.

Here we have the option of walking or riding a horse for the 4 km journey down to the lake shore. There are lovely views of the surrounding hillsides and the lake as we descend, passing through a couple of villages, before we reach the lake edge, where there is a small jetty area.

On the island of Deber is a monastery which we can visit by rowing boat. After a picnic lunch here, we will visit the monastery, before making the return trip back to our vehicle for the journey back to Addis Ababa.

Day 2 (optional)

Camping

As an option we offer to camp overnight near the shores of the lake so as to have more time to interact with the local people.

Please note

Baregota Tour and Travel’s tours cover the whole of the country. Being a small company, customized tours can be arranged to suit the interests and time available to each client. Also this tour can be varied or combined to fit your requirements.

Addis Ababa options

For this and our other tours, we offer a 1 – 2 day stopover in Addis Ababa, where there are many amazing sights to see.

If you come in on a long haul overnight flight, this will give you time to recover from your jetlag before heading off on your selected tour.

Please refer to our optional tour of Addis Ababa for details. You can choose whether to spend one or two days in Addis, and also which places you would like to visit. This tour could also be added onto the end of another tour.
